LaBreak publishes reviews written by real people about real restaurants. To keep those reviews useful and trustworthy, some content is removed. This page explains what we remove, what that implies and how to contest a decision.
These rules apply to everything a user publishes: reviews, ratings, photos and owner replies.
1. What we remove
We remove the following content, whether it is reported by a user, by a restaurant owner or caught by our own checks:
- hateful, racist or discriminatory speech, harassment and threats;
- sexual, violent or shocking content;
- spam, advertising and links unrelated to the experience described;
- fake or misleading reviews: reviews written without a real experience of the venue, paid reviews, reviews posted by the venue about itself or about a competitor;
- off-topic reviews that are not about the experience at the venue;
- third parties' personal data: a private person's name, phone number, address, or any photo that identifies someone without their consent;
- anything illegal under French or European Union law.
A negative review is never removed for being negative. An honest account of a bad experience belongs on LaBreak, and a rating without a comment is a legitimate review.
2. What removal implies
When a review breaks these rules, we remove the whole review: the text, the photos and the rating. The rating stops counting toward the venue's average. This is the common practice across review platforms, and the reason is simple: the text is what gives the rating its meaning. A rating whose comment had been removed could no longer be explained, and the owner could no longer reply to it.
Removal is reversible. The review is not destroyed: it is hidden from the site and excluded from the averages. If the removal turns out to be unjustified, the review is restored exactly as it was, with its rating, its photos and any replies.
Manifestly illegal content may be permanently deleted and, where appropriate, reported to the competent authorities.
3. How the author is informed
When we remove your review, you receive a notification in your account. It names the venue, the removed rating and the reason for the removal. This is the information required by Article 17 of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA).
4. Contesting a decision
If you believe the removal is a mistake, you can contest it from your account: Profile, then Help, choosing the category "Contest a review removal". Explain why your review respects these rules. A member of the team re-reads the decision and answers you in your request's thread.
If the contest is accepted, the review is restored exactly as it was and the venue's average is recalculated immediately.
5. Repeat offences
Repeated or severe violations can lead to account suspension, as set out in our Terms of Service.
